Traditional bracing includes compression, which does not help with these problems, and immobilization, which may be too uncomfortable for nighttime use. In creating pillow for pain, I combined the standard principles of protecting the patient during surgical anesthesia, the pathophysiology of nighttime neck and arm pain as well as basic engineering. I realized that it is not necessary to immobilize the extremity rather it is important to protect it in a position of comfort. By avoiding shoulder compression with axillary cushion, we help relieve shoulder pain. By cushioning the elbow and preventing it from hyperflexion, we relieve elbow pain.
